I’ve been hurt for some time now.
I have a spinal injury which has resulted in an acute case of sciatica.
This has restricted what I can do in my life a lot. I haven’t been perusing my usual hobbies I’ve been unable to walk far, to sit for long, to lay down comfortably or sleep properly for about 6 months now. I am terribly, terribly tired!
Depressing shit right?
Also it’s seriously affecting my ability to concentrate. I was stuck at home for an extended period going quietly crazy as I couldn’t even sit and write due to both the discomfort and the inability to concentrate and I felt like weeks of my life were being flushed away where I had the time on my hands where in other circumstances I would have done so much.
To give you an illustration, I couldn’t even reach my own feet let alone tie my shoes. I couldn’t even put my socks on.
In the middle of this I’ve (and a fuck load of pain killers) have been to Dallas and Phoenix.
The best I can say is that I’ve been equally uncomfortable everywhere during this time.
Work are, on a different tack meant to be getting me a special chair but as that’s not happened despite the assessment being done weeks ago I’m currently having to work sitting on a £10 IKEA folding chair I brought in from home as it’s the most comfortable thing in the office. This should tell you something about both the state of my back and the state of the usual office chairs where I work.
As I write this an MRI is finally being booked to find the root cause of my back problems which I sincerely hope will be revealing and leave me with a clear way forward to get healthy again.
Update:
I’ve had my MRI since I started writing this. I’ve also less importantly but somewhat helpfully got my new office chair.
Anyway as a consequence of all this we’ve really not been doing any rope which wasn’t necessary for about 6 months and yesterday (at the time I’m writing this update) was the first time in about 7 months we’ve had a session for ourselves.
It was really nice to be able to do that. Especially as in 2 days we fly to Turin to do a Workshop with Wildties where we talk about or similarities and differences and both perform. I feel desperately out of shape after over 6 months of enforced inactivity. So it will be interesting to see how that goes.
whishing you speedy recovery….
Hi Dave,
I’m sorry to hear you are suffering like this. I know exactly how you feel. I have something quite similar.
If you need to talk about it, let me know. I’ve been suffering from Spondylolisthesis for about 14 years and will be having major back surgery in March. It does affect life, quite dramatically, limiting what we can do. I hope your situation is manageable.
Best regards,
Ran
The fact you were able to do a seesion with Clover is a positive uptick. Hopefully you are in the healing process. I get back pain that flattens me a few times a year. It is only a mere week or so, I can’t imagine dealing with it for such an extended time. Here’s to a speedy recover and good luck in Turin.
